Mode of Working

The core activities of UEEC revolve around schools and communities. We provide small project grants and organize training programmes and workshops for CBOs, women’s groups, youth groups, schools, government functionaries (teachers, Early Childhood Care and Education workers, staff involved in inspection of schools etc.) and motivated individuals. Based on the feedback from the villages and schools, programmes are regularly modified to suit the needs of communities. In collaboration with communities and schools, we develop and disseminate teaching/learning materials, make visits to schools and villages for on-the-spot guidance and problem solving, co-ordinate programmes and maintain enthusiasm at various levels.

Money inputs are purposely kept to a minimum in order to encourage an attitude of self-reliance. Procedural requirements for local grant recipients are kept to a minimum; support is given largely on trust. About 75 per cent of the grants received by by the Centre is passed on to schools, NGOs, women's and other village groups in the form of materials and cash. All together, activities supported by us extend to about one third of the villages of Uttarakhand.
